Beverage Consumption in Mexico

Wine in Mexico

Mexico has many wineries throughout the country. It even exports 25% of its production.

There is still plenty of room to export wine to Mexico, especially because tourists represent 40% of total consumption within Mexico. 65% of all wine consumed in Mexico comes from abroad.

Mexico consumes 250 ml of wine per person per year. 60% of the wine is red and 40% is white.

Wine is sold mostly in Liquor Stores and large Supermarkets and Warehouse Stores like COSTCO. There are specialty distributors and importers that handle only wine. They are your best bet to introduce new products into the country. There are some small import rules that you have to follow when exporting to Mexico, especially with labeling or re-labeling of bottles.

Wine from Chile has entered very strong into Mexico in the past years dominating the import of new wines. Spanish wine is also very popular. Napa is starting to take notice and many large wineries are searching ways to penetrate the market.
