Mexico is a great consumer of beverages as a country and one of the best per capita. For example, Mexico leads the world in the consumption of Soda per capita (some years it’s Mexico other years it’s the USA).

Mexicans consume 275 liters of water per person per year. This equates to 753 ml per day.

As far as water sales, Mexico is the 2nd largest market worldwide by volume, and USA is the 1st. This amounts to 29 billion liters of drinking water. 83% of this is sold in gallon or larger formats up to 18 liters in size and the rest in 1 liter, 1.5 liters and other sizes.

Water sales in Mexico are valued at $8 billion US annually. Water has an incredible 30% growth per year.

Pricing for bottled water varies per territory. In the north of Mexico it’s more expensive than in the south. Average price for 1.5 liters is from $7 to $12 Mexican Pesos (approximately $0.63 to $1.09 US dollars for 1.5 liters).

Flavored water is up to 30% more expensive than regular water.

Flavored water represents $100 million US dollars annually (It has existed only 3 years in the market).

Flavored water and other types of “new age water” are one of the strongest and largest growing categories in Mexico with no sure leader. This is where international companies have the highest potential for export into Mexico.
