Starbucks increased sales 140% in Mexico. They serve 130,000 customers per week and sold 5.6 million cups of coffee in 2004. All of this with only 57 stores in just 4 cities!
Mexico has a long tradition of coffee. Most coffee is consumed at home, although large and small coffee chains are appearing throughout Mexico as well as the very popular independent “Café Internet”. Large chains include Starbucks, smaller franchised chains include the Tijuana based Café de Volada now spreading to other parts of the country.
