Mexico is a great consumer of beverages as a country and one of the best per capita. For example, Mexico leads the world in the consumption of Soda per capita (some years it’s Mexico other years it’s the USA).

Beverage Sales Channels      • 75% of the sales are through mini markets, mom and pop
stores, gas stations, and liquor stores
     • 24% of the sales are through restaurants, schools, night
       clubs, hotels and resorts
     • Supermarkets represent 1% of sales
Mexico’s true growth is in “alternative drinks” such as energy drinks, vitamin drinks, juices, juice water, and bottled water.

Energy Drinks and New Age Beverages in Mexico

Energy Drinks and other New Age Beverages (besides Red Bull) are relatively new in Mexico and you have no official research data. Our own research shows it’s the fastest growing segment in the Mexican beverage industry. By our estimates it’s growing at 200% per year or more.

Red Bull still enjoys 98% of the market share. Other products like flavored waters are produced nationally and have not seen a lot of imports. This segment is up for grabs in Mexico.

Even products like Monster, Rock Star and Sobe are struggling to penetrate the market. You still see very small companies distributing these products in large cities like Tijuana. The largest distributors in Mexico do not have an “official” energy drink at the moment (aside from Monster Energy Drink). These large distributors (up to 60,000 stores) are looking for more energy drinks, sodas and new age beverages.
